Blue Runner (Sawrella tal-Imperjal)

The Blue Runner, known locally as Sawrella tal-Imperjal, is one of the best fighting sport fish around Maltese waters. These fierce predators can be caught while trolling or using live bait. They inhabit coastal shallow water reefs, where they hunt with great speed and agility. In Malta Blue Runners typically range from 30 to 60 cm in length, with males being darker in colour and females displaying vibrant yellow tones. When landed in the boat, they are known to emit a peculiar grunt, adding to their distinctive nature. Their thrilling fight and striking appearance make them a popular catch for anglers.
