Dorado

Dorado, known locally as Lampuka—Malta’s National Fish—are great fun to catch, especially as they often leap out of the water when they strike the bait. These colorful, fast-moving fish are usually caught while trolling using lures and often travel in shoals, so multiple catches are common in one trip. Dorado typically range from 40 to 80 cm in length, though larger specimens can be found. The season for dorado fishing begins around the end of August or September, with catches recorded until December or even January.
