Skipjack Tuna

Skipjack tuna are one of the best fighting fish around and can be caught all year round in Maltese waters. These fast, aggressive predators hunt in shoals, making multiple strikes a common thrill for anglers. In Malta they can be caught using various methods, including trolling, live bait, and jigging. Known for their speed and endurance, skipjacks put up an intense fight, especially on light to medium tackle. They typically range from 40 to 70 cm in length, though larger specimens do occur. Their surface-feeding habits and explosive strikes make them an exciting target for both novice and experienced fishermen.
